 LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Concord Bicycle Music is proud to announce the release of Thank You, Friends: Big Star's Third Live ... And More. The 90-minute concert film, which celebrates the music of Big Star through an illustrious collective of musicians, will have its world premiere at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 16. The title will be available in stores April 21, 2017 as a 2-CD/DVD or Blu-Ray combo pack, as well as a standalone, 2-CD album. Liner notes by GRAMMY®Award-winning writer Anthony DeCurtis and Chris Stamey (from The dB’s, and a founding member of the Big Star Third ensemble) will round out the package.
Big Star’s devastatingly beautiful third album has long been revered by artists and critics as one of the most influential records ever produced. Written and recorded when the legendary ’70s band was primarily a studio project consisting of guitarist Alex Chilton and drummer Jody Stephens, Third (or Sister Lovers, as it was alternatively known) had never been performed in public with the original string and wind arrangements. That changed in 2010, following Chilton’s untimely death just two days ahead of a much-anticipated Big Star performance at the South by Southwest Music Festival.

While standing inside the famous six-foot circle on stage, Tritt expressed his feelings about the night, telling the crowd that being a member of the Opry is the “biggest honor of my life.” Backstage, prior to his 25th anniversary performance, Opry executives surprised Tritt with a cake to further celebrate the historic night. Courtesy of the Artist BROOKLYN, NY (Press Release)- Folk-punk/Americana singer songwriter Rue Snider will release Speak My Mind, an EP including three brand new songs, on March 3, 2017. The tracks were recorded at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville, TN and produced by Andrija Tokic. Tokic is the engineer and/or producer behind numerous records and singles including “Boys and Girls” by Alabama Shakes, “The Spirit Moves” by Langhorne Slim, “Dead Flowers” by Caitlin Rose, and “Look Out Mama” by Hooray for the Riff Raff. Also featured on the tracks are multi-instrumentalist Jon Estes (John Paul White, Phosphorescent) and Grammy Award winning drummer Derrek C Phillips.
The title track “Speak My Mind” was written in a basement apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn the day after the 2016 election. Rue was in New York City to vote and like 66 million other Americans was dismayed by the result. The track is a response to the tone Donald Trump employed in his campaign for America’s highest office. It acknowledges the racism and misogyny in the Alt Right and asks the question “What do you say to kids?” when the language coming out of the White House ridicules minorities, women, and the disabled. "I grew up listening to people like Bob Dylan, Ani Difranco, and Bruce Cockburn who were all unafraid to speak truth to power,” says Rue. “That’s the tradition I’m coming out of. I wrote a lot of really bare, honest songs about myself on the first two records. Now I’m trying to take that same honesty and focus it on things outside of myself a little bit.” Speak My Mind also includes the songs, “One More American” and “Moving Me.” The former is a politically driven rock song addressing police brutality. The latter is a Motown inspired mid tempo ballad about desire. Rue Snider has made appearances at SXSW, Folk Alliance International, and North East Regional Folk Alliance, and shared the stage with Lydia Loveless, Tom Maxwell (Squirrel Nut Zippers), Tropic of Pisces, Superhuman Happiness, Benjamin Scheuer ("The Lion"), Blue Healer, Donna Missal, and Walter Salas-Humara (the Silos). Instead, they were honored to be at Gilley’s performing their rendition of the Willie Nelson classic “Our Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” during the in memoriam presentation at the star-studded Dallas Cowboys 25-year reunion for the 1992 championship team. This was a private charity event spearheaded by quarterback Troy Aikman with proceeds going to The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. The event was attended not only by the 1992 team, but by members of the 1993 and 1995 teams as well. The Dallas-based band also performed an hour long original set before the ceremony commenced, and the entire experience will definitely go down as an all-star career highlight. (Press Release) The genesis of Seafoam Green followed a chance meeting with Rich Robinson during recording sessions in Nashville. O’Grady was invited by Robinson to open his US and European tour dates and soon the pair began writing and recording in earnest, leading to their collaboration on the stunning debut album. Debut album ‘Topanga Mansion’ was recorded at 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica, California and is a fine collection of melodic folk and rock jam Americana with an all round warm sound that invites the listener into its intricacies. Encompassing O’Grady’s varied influences from Creedence Clearwater Revival to Aslan and Christy Moore, the sounds of Nashville, Irish storytelling and more recently the sounds of Liverpool where O’Grady currently resides, it’s a mansion in itself of extravagant beautiful musical décor. “The first time I heard John Fogerty sing I was like “what is that!!?? and how do I do it?” says O’Grady and in tracks like ‘Down The River’ we can hear footprints of CCR as the track explodes with a whiskey-soaked, gospel-harmony, truck-driving classic rock power that’s just plain awesome. More melodic moments like ‘Celtic Wonderings’ shows another side with its contemplative accomplished folk finger-picking stylings and beautiful backdrop of pedal steel and strings and O’Gradys’ hushed well-worn voice rising above in a haze of wondering. “The thing I love about Irish folk music is the story telling, the poetic phrasing that passes through verses live waves over sand or stones, no two verses are the same as they are telling a different part of the story and project a different image.” Adds O’Grady. 2017 is shaping up to be a year of playing, travelling and meeting people for Seafoam Green and with Topanga Mansion coming out on double vinyl on Liverpool’s Mellowtone Records, O’Grady is coming out of the shadows with a quality of songwriting and music that will no doubt place him at the top of the UK’s Americana, folk and indie scenes. It received rave reviews across the board, making it Kinky’s best and most popular effort ever. Yes, the Kinkster has been resurrected.
