Blues Music Visionary Otis Taylor Reflects on The African American Experience in a Timely Release on The Trance Blues Festival Label, Out February 17th
Fantasizing About Being Black is a raw and haunting multi-instrumental blend that reveals the connection of history to modern day events;
features musical guests Jerry Douglas, Brandon Niederauer and Ron Miles
BOULDER, Colo. (Press Release) — Following his 2015 psychedelic masterpiece Hey Joe Opus/Red Meat, the new album from visionary roots music songwriter and bandleader Otis Taylor, Fantasizing About Being Black, is a stark and poetic lesson on the historical trauma of the African American experience, from the voyages of slave ships to the Mississippi Delta. Taylor simultaneously travels back in time while moving forward as a musical artist. Blending his unique songwriting and the compelling musical approach that he calls “trance blues,” the recording — on Taylor’s Trance Blues Festival label — inspires with stories of the enduring human spirit, letting its hypnotic sound as well as Taylor’s lyrics tell a story of continuing struggle. Street date is February 17, 2017.
The artist explains that his 15th album is about “the different levels of racism in the African American experience that are unfortunately still with us today. The history of African Americans is the history of America,” Taylor says.

Curtis McMurtry Crafts A Sharply Focused Study of Human Relationships on 'The Hornet's Nest' due February 24th
Using a chamber ensemble of banjo, cello, upright bass and trumpet,
featuring Mother Falcon singer/cellist Diana Burgess,
second-generation tunesmith examines love, lust, and impermanence
AUSTIN, Texas (Press Release)— From the first song on The Hornet’s Nest, it becomes obvious that Austin singer-songwriter Curtis McMurtry is mining a creative vein no one else has tapped. Using a chamber ensemble of banjo, cello, upright bass and muted trumpet, he’s crafted an album full of distinctive melodies and lyrics depicting richly drawn, sometimes delightfully malevolent characters. As he threads their lives through these songs, McMurtry subtly connects them together, like a play staged in 13 elegant vignettes. But on this album, releasing February 24, 2017, McMurtry doesn’t simply observe human emotions and behavior; he plumbs motivations as well.
The album’s theatrical feel is enhanced by the intricate vocal ballet McMurtry shares with his duet partner and cellist, Diana Burgess, of Austin orchestral-pop band Mother Falcon. One can easily visualize them dancing a tango — in a boxing ring — as they vocally spar on “Wrong Inflection.” Spurred on by Nathan Calzada’s snarling trumpet, McMurtry sings in his bell-like tenor, I stay on my guard/‘cause every time we fight you push me too far/stop insisting that I take things too hard/you know I bruise just like a peach. With palpable venom, Burgess fires back, Love this won’t do/don’t pretend to know the pain I’ve been through/when everything you have was handed to you/you never even had to reach.

Produced by Lane and fellow singer-songwriter Jonathan Tyler, and recorded in Denton, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee, Highway Queen blends potent lyrics, unbridled blues guitars and vintage Sixties country-pop swagger. WARSAW, Ind. (Nov. 29, 2016) – Warsaw native U.S. Army SSG Justin Raymer and his family thought they were simply attending Craig Morgan’s “American Stories” concert Nov. 19 at the Wagon Wheel Theatre, but they were in store for the surprise of their lives.
Raymer’s father, Mike, the assistant Fire Chief for the Winona Lake Fire Department told Justin that Morgan was looking for veterans to attend the concert. When Morgan, an Army veteran himself, finished his third song of the night, he invited Justin and Kaci to the stage where they were surprised with the news that they were receiving a mortgage-free home.
“I have been gone for 15 years,” Raymer said. “It means a lot to finally come home and bring our entire family together.”
