Free festival slated for June 16 in Corsicana, birthplace of legendary country singer

NASHVILLE, TENN (Press Release) --- Country music star, David Frizzell, has announced the inaugural LeftyFest Music Festival to be held in Corsicana, Texas on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

The festival is established, in cooperation with the city of Corsicana, to honor the enduring musical legacy of Lefty Frizzell, one of American music’s most iconic and influential singer/stylists of any genre. Lefty, who would’ve turned 90 this year, was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame honors his contributions to entertainment.

David Frizzell is the younger brother of Lefty. He toured with Lefty in his youth, before being signed to a record deal of his own, and going on to a multi-award-winning career that remains dynamic today. David is a singer, songwriter, touring performer, producer and author.

A chance meeting with Corsicana Chief of Police, Robert Johnson, set the wheels in motion for David Frizzell’s longtime dream of a festival to honor his world-famous brother. Johnson, arguably the only SAG-AFTRA actor in the world who also happens to be a police chief, is an avid fan of Lefty Frizzell, and was instrumental in the early planning for LeftyFest.

Phil Cook's PEOPLE ARE MY DRUG out June 1

April, 2018 (Press Release)  Troubadour Phil Cook continues his journey with his second solo release, PEOPLE ARE MY DRUG, out June 1 on Psychic Hotline/Thirty Tigers. Billboard premiered “Steampowered Blues,” the first track off the album.  Cook reflects on the track:, ““Steampowered Blues” is the first song I wrote for PEOPLE ARE MY DRUG.  I’ve long been drawn to the swing and swagger of New Orleans’ step rhythms.  The left-right bass lines get my feet stepping, whereas the drums channel my hip movements and the weightless carefree melodies often coax my arms from my sides toward the sky.  Lyrically, it’s playful in a way that I can get behind. Tamisha Waden and Chastity Brown’s vocal expressions are stunning. The payoff when Mountain Man enters at the end of the double-time chant makes me cheer every time. Within my mortal body and experience, this music is my church.”

Singer-Songwriter John Craigie Announces New Album 'Scarecrow'

Portland, OR-based singer-songwriter John Craigie announces the April 21st vinyl release date of his new full length Scarecrow. The completely analog album was recorded live to a 2 inch tape, mastered to tape, and cut straight to be pressed to vinyl. Preorder the album HERE.

“These are songs written for last year’s No Rain, No Rose, but were cut from the album because they’re slower and softer in feel than the rest of that album,” Craigie explains. “They are sort of homeless songs, which is one reason why I used the name Scarecrow. They are songs that are out alone in a field.”

“Scarecrow was self-produced, and as you’ll hear there isn’t much production,” Craigie continues. “Most songs were done either on first or second take. It turns out lots of people record to tape, then mix digitally on Pro Tools, but it’s uncommon to go analog for the full process. I think vinyl fans will appreciate the sound and the fully analog process, while Craigie fans will appreciate putting on a record that is really chill and vibey.”

Out Now: Chris Stamey's music memoir, 'A Spy In The House of Loud'

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Press Release) — Popular music was in a creative upheaval in the late 1970s. As the singer-songwriter and producer Chris Stamey remembers, “the old guard had become bloated, cartoonish, and widely co-opted by a search for maximum corporate profits, and we wanted none of it.” In A Spy in the House of Loud, he takes us back to the auteur explosion happening in New York clubs such as the Bowery’s CBGB, as Television, Talking Heads, R.E.M., and other innovative bands were rewriting the rules. Just 22 years old and newly arrived from North Carolina, Stamey immersed himself in the action, playing a year with Alex Chilton before forming the dB’s and recording the albumsStands for deciBels and Repercussion, which still have an enthusiastic following.

A Spy in the House of Loud vividly captures the energy that drove the music scene as arena rock gave way to punk and other new streams of electric music. There are engrossing backstories about creating in the recording studio, as well as insights into other people’s music and the process of songwriting. Photos, mixer-channel and track assignment notes, and other inside-the-studio materials illustrate the stories. A Spy in the House of Loud reads like a Mozart in the Jungle for indie rock, depicting a Southern artist’s coming-of-age in a New York scene that has been stereotyped as all punk rock, safety pins, and provocation. Stamey’s book shows another side of the CBGB era, as he searches for new ways to break the rules and make some noise.
